Top players join tip fight

From the Bolton Evening News, first published Tuesday 18th Jun 1996.

LEADING singers and songwriters from across the North-west will descend on Horwich to perform in a fund-raising benefit concert in aid of the Red Moss campaign. Acoustic musicians, including Anthony John Clarke, and Pete Ryder, have given their services free to the benefit gig which takes place on Friday, at the RMI Club, Chorley New Road, Horwich.

All proceeds will go towards the Red Moss Action Committee, which is campaigning to save the ancient peat bog earmarked to become a Greater Manchester's supertip.

Organiser Mark Atherton of Gloucester Avenue, Horwich, who also doubles in the folk duo Mark Atherton and Simon Cohen, will also be playing at the event.

He said: "I asked five fellow singer-songwriters, all with a good reputation on the music scene, if they'd play at the RMI Club. Not only have they all agreed to play for free the RMI club itself has waived any charge for using the premises.

"It will be a great opportunity for people in the Bolton area to see all these acts on the same night knowing that virtually all the money will go to the Red Moss campaign. It shows how much people value their local environment with so many willing to help out." Further details of the event which kicks off at 8pm and goes on until midnight from Mark Atherton on Bolton 698208. Tickets, available on the door or in advance, are priced £5 or £4 concession.
