HOPES are rising that the Government will back British Aerospace when it announces missile orders worth more than £1.3 billion.
The decisions, which could come in the next couple of weeks, are of vital significance to the future of the BAe Defence Dynamics factory at Lostock, Bolton.
Management and staff are waiting anxiously and are not getting too carried away by upbeat stories which have appeared in the national press about the likelihood of successful missile and aircraft bids, apparently contributing to a rise in the BAe share price last week. more...

BOLTON'S Parish Church is celebrating 125 years, beautifully.
In fact, for a building that has survived through town centre wartime bombs, Depression, Recession and the reign of six monarchs, this remarkable edifice still stands as a beacon of solidity and security.
This is not only thanks to the foresight of cotton manufacturer Peter Ormrod who met the entire £45,000 building costs in the 1870s. Nor to the Lancaster architect E J Paley who designed this splendid example of Victorian Gothic architecture.
It is also due to the many church officials, parishioners and other local people who, in the last four years, have helped to raise the £450,000 for a facelift to ensure that future generations can enjoy our church of St Peter, Bolton-le-Moors. more...

The saddest thing about this fact is, even though we have been very short of funds for a considerable time, we have continued to serve the community by rescuing and taking in unwanted or stray animals. more...
