Stage set for young Richard

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Thursday 6th Nov 1997.

TWO young actors will take their place alongside heavyweights from the Royal Shakespeare Company next week in Cyrano de Bergerac.

Richard, Neale, 13, a pupil at Montgomery High School, and Daniel Langley, 12, were given the parts of pickpockets in the star-studded production at Blackpool's Grand Theatre, November 11-15.

Both boys are members of the Blackpool Grand Junior Youth Theatre.

Richard said: "Acting is something I've always wanted to do. It's a great opportunity and I'll be able to use use it when I apply for jobs."

The boys will act directly with Antony Sher, fresh from his Tony Award nomination for best actor in Pam Gem's Stanley on Broadway.

Antony has returned to the RSC on the centenary of Rostand's play to portray the legendary hero who is brave in everything, except his love for the beautiful Roxane.

The show was a sell-out success at Stratford and will finish its tour with a season in the West End.

Tickets range in price from £8 to £16 with the usual concessions.

There will also be an upbeat page-to-stage demonstration of the elements involved in bringing a play to life, presented by the RSC's production team on Wednesday, November 12 at 10.30am. Tickets cost £2.
