New system puts the heat on competitors

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Friday 27th Aug 1999.

A MUDFLAP manufacturer is making more inroads into Europe!

Boydell & Jacks of Burnley currently exports more than 25 per cent of its anti-spray commercial vehicle mudflaps but the installation of new machinery is set to give it a major advantage over the competition.

A new infra red drying unit has been installed after advice from Noweb's Emtec centre in Chorley which helps business make more efficient use of energy.

Mudflaps made at the firm are silk screen printed with the vehicle manufacturers' logo.

"Before they were stacked in racks and left overnight to dry but this method was too slow and couldn't keep up with production demands," said Paul Halstead, works director of Boydell & Jacks which is based in Lincoln Street.

"They were also taking up a lot of room in the factory."

Emtec carried out a series of trials at its Customer Technology Centre in Chorley to find ways of speeding up the drying process and recommended that the new infra red be installed.

Now the mudflaps can be packed and sent out as they come off the production line making it easier to meet rush orders.

"We're delighted with the results. The new line has freed up much needed capacity," said Mr Halstead.
