TEN YEARS AGO: Town centre blaze

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Friday 27th Aug 1999.

TWO firemen were injured fighting a town centre blaze which caused damage running into tens of thousands of pounds and left part of a building in danger of possible collapse.

Fire crews in Accrington warned people to stay clear of the former Market Chambers, where fourth-floor stonework could be unsafe, because the roof supporting it was destroyed.
