Chamber members enjoy Indian feast

EAST Lancashire's business movers and shakers enjoyed an Indian feast at the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce annual President's Dinner held last night.

Guests had an evening of Indian cuisine, music and dancing and were entertained with a display from a Bollywood-style dance troupe called Spice Entertainment after a speech by the chamber's first Asian president Sajad Butt.

The 200-strong audience listened as Mr Butt introduced local businessman Tony Raynor as president for 2005, at the prestigious event held at the Northcote conference and banqueting suite at Blackburn Rovers Football Club.

He said: "I remember Richard Hope, my predecessor as president, assuring me when I was being elevated to the presidency that I could look forward to a couple of tranquil years. If launching Unique, women in business, fuel price hikes, global insecurity, the effective end of European Funding and Graeme Souness and Stan Ternent's departures, represents tranquillity, I wonder what would have constituted an interesting period!"

President of the British Chambers of Commerce Bill Midgley was the guest speaker and a raffle was held in aid of the East Lancashire Hospice and Child Care International.
