Appeal for relatives of crash driver

From the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, first published Monday 24th Jul 2006.

RELATIVES of a Blackburn motorist suspected of suffering a "massive heart attack" at the wheel are being urged to contact police.

Self-employed electrician Keith Pickup, 50, remains unconscious in a "stable" condition after collapsing while driving along Preston New Road, Blackburn.

It is thought Mr Pickup, of Nares Road, collapsed at the wheel and police said his car slowed down before swaying and hitting a wall at low speed at 4.45pm on Monday.

Now police have launched an appeal for relatives and workmates to get in touch as they have failed to trace and inform Mr Pickup's family about his plight.

Sgt Pete Sculpher, based at the road policing unit in Accrington, said: "Mr Pickup remains unconscious in the intensive care unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack.

"Mr Pickup lived alone and we have so far not been able to trace any relatives. But we believe his ex-wife and daughter may still be in the Blackburn area. His ex-wife is called Laura and her maiden name is Sinclair.

"Anyone who worked with him or his next of kin are urged to get in touch."

Call the road unit on 01254 353767.
