Charity’s thanks

The Blackpool Link of the Chernobyl Children Life Line Charity is currently providing a month's stay for a party of children from Belarus, who are affected by the Chernobyl disaster.. It is estimated that one month with a family here in the UK boosts their immune system to such an extent, that it gives them another two years on their life expectancy. The staff and friends of Fleetwood Museum have provided a complete Museum Experience and Workshop' session for the children - including a delicious buffet and games afterwards. This was a highly enjoyable cultural and educational experience for the children. They learned a great deal about our local history and had a lot of fun at the same time. We really appreciate the work of the museum - it is an excellent facility and a priceless store of local knowledge and history. The museum staff made us feel very welcome and the event was a great success. On Wednesday August 2 Blackpool's famous Poce Loco Samba Band put on a special Samba Workshop for a party of children from Belarus. Band members gave a spectacular display of samba band music. After a break - when some excellent refreshments were provided, the children were invited to try their hand. They were taught some basic skills and to their delight, they joined in with the band to perform a memorable impromptu concert. To contact the charity's headquarters direct, telephone 01428 642523 John and Pauline Caulfield Chernobyl Children's Life Link, Chatsworth Avenue, Blackpool  more...

Change the law to move on travellers

ON behalf of the Hulton Ward councillors I personally wish to thank each and every one of the residents who attended the public meeting on Tuesday evening in regard to travellers at Hulton Lane playing field. Very frank and direct questions were posed to council officers, councillors and the police, and, although some of the answers were not what the residents wanted to hear, we did get some answers. Many of the problems we have in removing travellers are to do with the legal process and the length of time this takes. If we cannot change the law, we need a physical barrier to stop them!  more...
