Any colour, as long as it's not blue

Is it just me or does anyone else in the borough hate the colour of the blue refuse bins? Even after the collection dates, residents have them on view, and if you live opposite a house where this happens, it is an eyesore and a blot on our environment. I rang the council and asked them to take mine away, which they did. If everyone did this, maybe they would use a less conspicuous colour.  more...

We spent more than 24 hours at the bedside, with family members in and out, but tea and coffee was always on hand and the staff on Ward 7 went above and beyond the call of duty.  more...

Town’s drains are neglected

ONE of the most common questions asked by council-taxpayers is "what am I getting for it?" The answer is not a lot. A great song and dance is made about green flags won by our excellent gardeners but I suggest that the neglect of grids and drainage maintenance is a cause for concern and a more essential programme to be put in place. This represents an expenditure which should not be skimped and should be budgeted for accordingly by an adequate allocation of council tax revenue.  more...

Time our boys came home

IN a recent letter to the Bury Times, P Griffin of Ramsbottom suggested we keep the flags of St George which were used in support of England in the world cup competition flying, as a mark of patriotism for our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
