From the Lancashire Telegraph, first published Tuesday 13th Mar 2007.
THE first public meeting of a new political party will be held tomorrow night.
Businessman Tony Melia quit the LibDems to set up For Darwen to represent the needs of the town.
He said there was much unhappiness over dealings concerning the new academy, regeneration work and the £9 million leisure centre develop-ment.
Mr Melia, who owns Genesis Plumbing and Electrical, has invited residents to the meeting at 7pm at Darwen Football Club.
He said: "So many people have voiced their opinions on the way that Blackburn with Darwen Council are treating our town, we had no other option but to form a party that has Darwen's interests first."
He intends to stand in local elections for Sunnyhurst ward where he lives.
Coun Michael Johnson, representative for Fernhurst, quit the far- right England First party to become the first For Darwen councillor.
