Former villager is 100 years young

Former villager Mary Calvert has just celebrated her 100th birthday with a card from the Queen and two special guests, the Mayor of Pendle, Coun. Alan Buck and her neice, Joyce Whittam, who had specially travelled all the way from Australia to celebrate the special day with other family and friends at Brierfield care home, where Mary Calvert now lives. Mrs Calvert was born in Foulridge at Hey Farm and only moved to Trawden for a short time when she married Arthur, they moved back to her Foulridge home to look after her mother and continue her support to Mount Pleasant Methodist Chapel, where she is a life-long member. Mrs Calvert moved from Foulridge 10 years ago, but it is believed that if she still lived in the Foulridge she would be the eldest woman in the village.  more...
