Man quizzed over child rape

A man has been arrested in connection with the suspected rape of a 12-year-old girl in a Blackpool park.

Police said they received reports that the girl had been attacked in Stanley Park at 8.40pm on last night.

The victim was taken to the SAFE unit at the Royal Preston Hospital for medical examination.

The specialist unit deals with cases relating to sex offences.

A local man is now in custody and is being questioned in connection with the offence.

Police have confirmed that he is an adult male, but have not released any further details.

A police spokesman said: "We will be interviewing witnesses today and there is likely to be increased police activity in Stanley Park throughout the day."
