PNE star questioned over assault

Preston North End defender Youl Mawene has been question by police following a domestic disturbance at his home in Lytham.

Officers were called to an address in West Bank Avenue shortly before 7pm last night and arrested the star on suspicion of assaulting his partner.

Mawene signed for PNE from Derby County in 2004 and has made more than 75 appearances for the club.

He missed the whole of last season with cruciate and medial knee ligament problems but has played in North End's three matches so far this season.

Police confirmed a 28-year-old man was arrested and has now been released on bail until September 12.

A spokesman for Preston North End said: "The club will not be commenting on personal matters."
