Vale hold on for victory

Elton Vale 1 Wilmslow Albion 0
A TOM Stubbs penalty was enough to give Vale the points in this Manchester League Division One clash with an impressive Wilmslow.
It took Elton time to click into gear, and when they did Shaun Carey dragged a shot wide of goal.
Tom Smith then had a chance with a 40-yard shot with the keeper out of his area, but he managed to scramble back and clear his lines.
The vital breakthrough came on the half-hour with Tom Stubbs being felled in the area as he jinked past two defenders. The forward got up to score the spot-kick himself.
In the first move of the second half, Smith climbed to head goalwards, but was thwarted again by a good save at the foot of the post.
Phil Kenyon, in the Vale goal, was called upon to sweep behind his defence a couple of times, and then to push over a fine shot from wide right to keep the home side in front.
In the end, Elton did enough to win but gave the home supporters some anxious moments on the way.
This Saturday, they travel to Wythenshawe Town, and the reserves start their campaign at home to Walshaw. Both games start at 2.30pm.
