Work has started on Bolton's new super-centre for babies

WORK has already started on Bolton's baby and children's super-centre.
A specialist children's accident and emergency department is due to open later this year and work on a midwife-led maternity unit in the hospital's main maternity unit has also begun.
Hospital chiefs are now waiting to be told how much cash they will be given to deliver the extra services, which could see as many as 6,000 babies born at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
There are already plans to extend the current delivery suite and increase the number of neonatal intensive care beds from three to 10.
Extra maternity, neonatal and children's medical staff will also be employed at the hospital as it deals with more babies and youngsters.
Community services, such as home births, will also expand massively in the borough and beyond.
Gail Naylor, head of midwifery at the Royal Bolton, said: "For mums in Bolton, this will mean we will be able to sustain the services we deliver already and improve on that."
