New manager to meet traders
From the Bury Times, first published Sunday 26th Aug 2007.
BURY'S newly-appointed town centre manager Lisa Durkin will be introduced to local businessmen and women at a special meeting later this month.
She is to attend the latest meeting of Bury Town Centre Forum next Thursday at the main theatre at The Met in Market Street, beginning at 5pm.
Ruth Shedwick, local authority planning projects officer, said: "We are delighted to have a new town centre manager joining the team. This is an exciting time for local businesses. The town centre manager will provide the catalyst in further developing the Bury Town Centre Partnership which links the business community, Bury Council and other agencies, at this exciting and important time when Bury is expanding and developing."
Also at the Forum meeting the planned Townside development, to begin later this year, will come under the microscope. The area opposite Bury Town Hall is earmarked for the provision of new office and health care accommodation, together with parking facilities. Representatives from the developers will give information about proposals and the programme of work.
The meeting will also provide information and a progress update regarding The Rock town centre development scheme. Other items on the agenda include Christmas lights and retail training.
The Forum provides an opportunity for town centre businesses to find out more about the developments in and around the town centre and what impact they will have on the town centre and on pedestrian links, parking, and traffic. All town centre businesses are invited to attend.
Anyone requiring further information about the meeting should contact Ruth Shedwick on (0161) 253 5327 or e-mail implementation@bury.gov.uk
