Jesus In India still need new bassist
From the The Bolton News, first published Tuesday 28th Aug 2007.
JESUS In India have been exploring slightly darker territory with their new song, Your Daughter.
Guitarist Dan Moores says: "Basically I wrote this music and what generally happens when Rob and I write songs is I write the music, we come up with a daft title for it, and I thought the phrase "Your Daughter" sounded particularly sleazy.
"Then Rob was on a train on the way home and he saw a prostitute and he decided to make it about that.
"The story is basically from the viewpoint of someone who knows that someone is a prostitute but can't tell her father that that's what she does, and her father thinks she's some kind of high-class student or something. There's some great lines in it that Rob wrote."
Jesus In India, who describe themselves as "that secret Prince/Nirvana collaboration that you never knew about" formed in 2005 after Dan met singer Rob Derbyshire when they Were both late for music class.
The band have gone from strength to strength ever since, and in October will release the song Sold, through independent label Black Hat Records.
"They just promote bands from the area, not really in any major way just to give them a peg up', I think is the phrase that they use," says Dan. "We're going to tour some places round the country to promote that."
But the band is also missing one major ingredient - a bass player.
"Yes, we still need a bass player," says Dan. "The one we're using at the moment is from the Sound Marshalls and he's fine, he said he'd do it for as long as we need, but we're not really his bag."
When asked what the band are looking for in a bassist, Dan says: "Sexiness! Someone with low self-esteem so I can bully them into doing what I want. That sort of thing.
"No, really just someone who can play who's available because the reason we've rejected people in the past is because they've said Well, we could do it on this night, this night or that night because I'm working.'
"Rob and I have both put our lives on hold totally to do this, I've lost a lot of work because we've been playing silly gigs to no-one, but it's still worth it.
"I'd like them just to enjoy what we do, I'm not too bothered about what their own personal tastes are I just want them to enjoy playing with us. The people we've had in the past, no matter what they like, have always enjoyed playing with us because it is always fairly raucous."
Potential bassists should phone Dan on 07855 508510.
