Candidate has tough job ahead

From the The Bolton News, first published Wednesday 29th Aug 2007.

SPEAKING totally non-politically, London barrister Yasmin Qureshi, pictured, has a tough time ahead of her.

She's been selected to fight Bolton South East MP Brian Iddon's seat when he steps down ahead of the next general election. There was tough opposition for the job and the town's Labour party felt she was the best candidate.

Dr Iddon is a particularly hard act to follow. He was made an MP 10 years ago after a lengthy career in local politics on Bolton Council, when he was also a governor at several schools.

Now, Ms Qureshi is set to shadow Dr Iddon until the election, and let's hope she absorbs it all.

Common sense and compassion we hope come as basic for a good MP. Local knowledge and understanding has to be acquired.
